Along with spectacular views that attract whale watchers during the winter, San Diego's Cabrillo National Monument also features a statue of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who arrived in 1542, and a restored lighthouse which dates back to 1855.

Built in 1856 for Thomas Whaley, this impressive two-story house is famous for being haunted. Supposedly home to four ghostly spirits, San Diego's Whaley House also contains a number of interesting worldly objects, such as a rare life mask of Abraham Lincoln and the piano used in the film 'Gone with the Wind'.
